Namma Metro’s Yellow Line set to launch by end of May
The long-awaited commercial operations of Namma Metro’s Yellow Line—from RV Road to Bommasandra—are set to commence by the end of May or early June. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to begin service with three trains, each consisting of six coaches, operating at 20-minute intervals.
Although the 19.15 km Yellow Line, featuring 16 elevated stations, has been structurally complete for a while, a shortage of coaches delayed the launch. A total of 90 coaches across 15 trains are required for full-scale operations. The coach supply contract was awarded to Titagarh Rail Systems from West Bengal, which has so far delivered two trains. The third is expected by May 15 or 20. Initially, trains will stop at only five key stations: RV Road, Jayadeva Hospital, Silk Board, Infosys (Konappana Agrahara), and Bommasandra. BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao confirmed that a formal request will soon be sent to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for inspection clearance. The RV Road station will connect to the Green Line, while Jayadeva Hospital station will link with the upcoming Pink Line.
Meanwhile, the 18-km Blue Line under Phase 2A, stretching from Silk Board Junction to KR Puram along the Outer Ring Road, is slated for launch in September 2026, further enhancing Bengaluru’s metro connectivity. The Yellow Line’s launch is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the southern part of Bengaluru, offering a faster and more efficient commute for daily travelers. Once fully operational, it will provide better connectivity to key commercial and residential hubs along the route.
