MP CN Manjunath urges CM to resolve Hemavati Link Canal Row
Bengaluru: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath has expressed deep concern over the escalating controversy surrounding the Hemavati Express Link Canal Feeder Project, which has caused divisions between neighboring districts.
In a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, Dr. Manjunath described the conflict as a “deeply troubling development” and stressed that such disputes must not undermine the spirit of harmony and cooperation among communities.
He urged the Chief Minister to immediately convene a joint meeting involving elected representatives, farmer leaders, and irrigation experts from both districts. The meeting, he suggested, should be led jointly by the CM and Deputy Chief Minister & Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar to thoroughly review the project’s benefits and challenges and arrive at a mutually agreeable solution.
Dr. Manjunath highlighted the responsibility of elected officials to ensure sufficient water supply for agriculture and drinking needs. He emphasized that the government must act decisively without fueling discord and must bring all stakeholders on board to guarantee fair and equitable water access for all parties involved.
