Moulvi accused of harassing married woman
A moulvi from Kuthagatta village in Nelamangala taluk has been accused of sexually harassing a 24-year-old married woman who had approached him for help in resolving domestic issues. The accused, identified as Bhadre Alam, is currently absconding.
According to the complaint filed at Dobbspet Police Station, the woman and her husband visited the moulvi on June 30 seeking guidance for ongoing family disputes. During the consultation, Alam allegedly took the woman alone into a room under the pretext of conducting a private ritual to solve her problems. Once inside, he reportedly asked her to remove her burqa and proceeded to touch her inappropriately. Shocked and traumatized, the woman confided in her family members, following which a panchayat (village council) meeting was held to address the matter. However, no concrete action was taken by local authorities or the community elders, prompting the woman to approach the police.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused moulvi. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with calls for swift justice and increased scrutiny of self-proclaimed religious advisors operating without oversight. This case adds to a growing list of incidents where women have been exploited under the guise of religious or spiritual intervention, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and stronger safeguards in such consultations. Authorities have urged anyone with information on Alam’s whereabouts to come forward.
