MLA’s son booked in rape case

Police investigations have intensified in the rape case registered against Prateek Chauhan, son of Bidar MLA Prabhu Chauhan, following a complaint filed by a young woman. Acting on the FIR, police recently conducted a spot inspection at a private hotel in Bengaluru, where the alleged incident occurred.

According to the victim’s complaint, she and Prateek had traveled to Bengaluru before their engagement. The incident reportedly took place on October 3, 2023, at a hotel where they stayed together. The hotel room had been booked by the complainant through MakeMyTrip. The police, currently probing the case, conducted inspections at the hotel and have also extended their investigation to Maharashtra.

Despite five days having passed since the FIR was filed, Prateek Chauhan has not yet been arrested. The survivor expressed frustration over the lack of action, alleging that the police were being uncooperative and even hostile toward her. She further claimed that while multiple site inspections had been completed, justice was being delayed.

In a direct appeal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the victim urged intervention, stating, “Even an FIR has been registered against my parents. We are being harassed instead of helped. Please ensure justice is served.” The case has sparked public attention, particularly due to the political background of the accused. As police continue their investigation, pressure mounts on authorities to take swift and impartial action in the matter.
