MLA delivers compensation to mining-affected families

To prevent fraud by middlemen and ensure transparency, compensation cheques are being distributed directly to the homes of mining-affected families, said Yeshwanthpur MLA S.T. Somashekar.
He was speaking after distributing compensation cheques of Rs. 40,000 each to around 145 families from S. Gollahalli village, which falls under the Chikkanahalli Gram Panchayat limits in the Yeshwanthpur Assembly constituency. He emphasized that every affected family in each village must receive the compensation without fail. “I will not tolerate any political interference in this process. Chikkanahalli belongs to my constituency, and I will not allow injustice to happen to the people here. I may not have come here earlier, but from now on, if outsiders try to interfere in my constituency’s matters, it will not end well for them,” he warned.
D. Siddaraju, President of the Karnataka State Stone, Mining and Crusher Owners’ Federation, stated that health check-ups are being conducted for residents living near mining areas due to health concerns. He recalled how former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy introduced a unique law, applicable only to Yeshwanthpur, to halt crusher operations. At that time, MLA Somashekar stood firmly with affected families and provided critical support. “We, the crusher owners, are forever indebted to him,” Siddaraju added. Other dignitaries present included Tavarekere Block President Revanna Siddayya, Cholanayakanahalli Panchayat President D. Anandswamy, Chetan, Lokesh, Somanna, Kaveri Krishnappa, and others.
