Minister N. Srinivasan stands up farmers against Airport construction
Karnataka MLA N. Srinivas stated that he will not allow the confiscation of farmers' land near Nelamangala for the proposed second airport. He affirmed that if such a situation arises, he will resign his legislative seat and stand in support of the farmers.
Addressing concerns about the proposed airport near Nelamangala, Srinivas said, "I will not allow the eviction of farmers' land. If such a situation comes, I will resign my MLA position and stand firmly with the farmers." He emphasized that he will oppose any efforts by the central government’s team, which has conducted surveys for the airport, to seize farmers' land.
He criticized the central team's survey, stating it lacks public benefit and is driven by political motives. Srinivas highlighted the proximity of the proposed site to Devanahalli and argued that the airport should be constructed at least 150 km away to avoid traffic congestion, suggesting Bengaluru South as a preferable location that would also benefit neighboring districts like Ramanagara, Mysore, Mandya, and Chamarajanagara. He pledged to oppose the construction if it encroaches on farmers' land and vowed to stand in their support.
Farmers from Motaganahalli, Lakkenahalli, and Gude Maranahalli villages organized protests against the airport project, voicing strong opposition. Over a thousand farmers gathered near Kempegowda Circle to protest, and afterward, Srinivas, along with local spiritual leaders and farmers’ representatives, held a public meeting. During the discussion, farmers reiterated their commitment to protect their land at any cost, declaring, "Even if it costs us our lives, we will not give up our land."
