Milk price hike: Coffee, tea to get hotter with 5% hike in Bengaluru hotels
Following the recent hikes in bus fares, metro tickets, milk, electricity, and diesel prices, the Karnataka government now faces public ire over an increase in coffee and tea prices across Bengaluru.
This latest price surge comes right after the Nandini milk price was raised by Rs 4 per litre, leading to a corresponding hike in beverages sold at hotels and eateries. Opposition parties have criticized the government’s actions, staging verbal protests against the price hikes.
Meanwhile, the government continues to justify the decisions, stating economic necessities. As per the Hotel Association, the price of tea and coffee has increased by Rs 2–3 at various hotels, and rates of popular items like butter and ghee dosas may also rise soon.
Former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy lashed out at the state government, questioning what benefit farmers are getting from the milk price hike. He said, “You have increased the price of milk, but what have you done for curd producers?” On the other hand, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar defended the decision, calling it a necessary adjustment.
Amid the political blame game, the common people continue to bear the burden of daily price rises. With no relief in sight, citizens are expressing frustration over the growing cost of living in the city.
Several hotel owners have stated that the price revision was inevitable due to rising input costs, including milk, sugar, gas, and staff wages. They emphasized that despite the hike, efforts are being made to maintain quality.
