Metro Yellow Line inspection finally begins
The long-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro connecting RV Road to Bommasandra has finally entered its inspection phase. On Tuesday, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) began evaluating the 19.15-km stretch, bringing hope to thousands of commuters, especially those heading to Electronics City.
The inspection marks a significant step after three years of delays. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had earlier urged the central government to intervene, pressing for CMRS approval to expedite the project. BMRCL had initially aimed to complete the line in 2021 but has since missed multiple deadlines, prompting public and political dissatisfaction.
MP P.C. Mohan criticized the slow pace of metro expansion and highlighted that while Delhi Metro has extended to 395 km in two decades, Bengaluru Metro has managed only 77 km in the same period. He stressed the need for efficient leadership at BMRCL, noting the appointment of 10 different MDs over 22 years has hindered consistent progress.
Mohan also raised concerns about the allocation of 45 acres in Hebbal, originally meant for a multi-modal transport hub. Allegedly, only 9 acres are now being retained for public infrastructure, with the rest being diverted toward private real estate interests. He warned this would damage Bengaluru’s long-term transport planning.
Furthermore, he expressed strong objections to the ₹17,780 crore Tunnel Road Project, stating that it lacks credible technical evaluation and reliable contractors. The Yellow Line inspection is expected to pave the way for formal clearance and operational rollout in the coming months.
