Metro Yellow Line delay sparks protest

Public Anger Grows as MP Slams Repeated Metro Missed Deadlines

Frustration is mounting over the prolonged delay in the launch of Namma Metro’s Yellow Line (R.V. Road–Bommasandra), which has now been postponed by nearly six years. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has called for a massive protest on July 5, urging citizens to march from Lalbagh to the BMRCL headquarters, demanding the immediate opening of the line.

The Yellow Line project began in 2014 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2021. However, even in mid-2025, the line remains non-operational. Addressing the media near the R.V. Road Metro Station, Surya accused the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) of repeatedly misleading the public with false deadlines—ranging from March to November 2024.

Highlighting the daily struggles of commuters, Surya stated that the delay is exacerbating traffic congestion at critical junctions like Silk Board. “If operational, the Yellow Line could serve 8 to 10 lakh commuters daily, reducing traffic, pollution, and stress. Instead, Bengalureans are stuck for hours in traffic due to incomplete infrastructure,” he said.

Despite sending letters and holding meetings with officials, Surya said no firm assurance was given on the project’s completion. With metro coaches now expected by August–September, BMRCL plans to begin safety trials before commercial operations begin. Until then, Surya urged the public to join the protest, saying, “Enough delays—open the Yellow Line now!” The delay has now snowballed into a public agitation, with attention turning to the government’s next move.
