Metro connectivity planned for KWIN City, Tumakuru
The Karnataka government is planning to extend Namma Metro to Tumakuru via KWIN City. The 52.4 km metro link aims to enhance connectivity, support industrial growth, and integrate with suburban rail expansion for better regional accessibility.
The Karnataka government has taken the first step toward connecting Tumakuru city with the Namma Metro network. The metro extension project is being planned to align with the state’s vision of enhancing connectivity to the proposed KWIN City, a major development initiative near Doddaballapura. Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure, M.B. Patil, shared details about this proposal. He stated that the Tumakuru metro line should pass through KWIN City, ensuring better connectivity to industries, educational institutions, hospitals, and other commercial establishments coming up in the area. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is actively evaluating the feasibility of extending the Green Line from its current endpoint at BIEC (Madarvara) to Tumakuru, covering a distance of 52.4 km. The minister has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and BMRCL officials, urging them to design the metro route through KWIN City. This plan, along with the Satellite Town Ring Road (STTR) project, is expected to boost industrial growth in Nelamangala and nearby regions. Experts have emphasized that metro and suburban rail projects should focus on improving Bengaluru’s connectivity with its neighboring towns. Tumakuru, being close to Bengaluru, is also expected to be linked through the upcoming suburban rail project. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) is implementing the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, with a 25 km corridor from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara, which could be extended 55 km to Tumakuru via Dabaspet for improved connectivity.
