The Karnataka Public School in Masthi village, Malur taluk, has undergone a major transformation under the 100th school renovation initiative of OSAAT (One School At A Time), an NGO dedicated to improving government school infrastructure. The renovation, completed at a cost of ₹12 crore, will be officially inaugurated for students on July 26.
According to Veeranna Gowda from OSAAT, ₹7.5 crore has already been spent on civil and essential structural works. An additional ₹4.5 crore will be invested over the next five months to upgrade other facilities. The revamped campus includes 18 classrooms, three laboratories, an auditorium, kitchen, toilet blocks, and various student amenities.
Chandrakala, Block Education Officer (Malur), stated that the school currently serves over 1,750 students from Class 1 to 2nd PU. With a faculty strength of over 45 teachers, the institution is well-staffed and caters to several nearby villages. She noted that the student strength, which was around 1,200 last year, has increased significantly due to the quality education and improved facilities.
This renovation holds special significance as Masthi is the birthplace of Jnanpith awardee Masthi Venkatesh Iyengar. The entire project has been funded by Janardan and Linda Thakkar of the Thakkar Family Foundation, based in Houston, Texas. OSAAT has now completed 100 school renovation projects across ten states, benefitting over 1.25 lakh rural students, furthering its commitment to transforming educational infrastructure in India’s underserved regions.
