Massive skywalk to be built at Banashankari junction for Rs 50–55 crore
In a significant move to ease traffic congestion and enhance commuter convenience, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the construction of a state-of-the-art skywalk at Banashankari junction.
The skywalk will link the Banashankari Metro Station and the BMTC bus terminal, which are currently separated by a 700-meter stretch of busy road. The project, estimated to cost between Rs 50 to 55 crore, will include landscaped green zones and resting areas with benches, offering a unique pedestrian experience unlike traditional footbridges.
A circular design will connect key points of the junction, and the redesign will also incorporate traffic signals and dedicated tree plantation zones. Construction tenders have been invited, and the selected contractor must complete the work within 15 months.
The firm will also handle the relocation of electric poles and trees. Operational since 2017, the Banashankari Metro Station is one of the busiest on the Green Line, serving thousands of daily commuters. With the popular Banashankari Temple nearby, the area experiences heavy footfall, especially on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Though delayed since its proposal in 2019, the skywalk is now moving forward and expected to significantly improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow at this critical south Bengaluru junction.
The construction of this skywalk will not only ease the flow of traffic but also enhance the overall commuter experience. The addition of green spaces, benches, and pedestrian-friendly features will make this project a welcome improvement, ensuring safety and comfort for the thousands of people who rely on this junction daily.
