Man rapes woman nearly 17 yrs after throwing acid on her
A man, who was convicted for seven years for throwing acid at a woman in 2005, was arrested from Bengaluru for allegedly raping a woman at her home in Delhi in December last year. The 43-year-old man was arrested by Delhi's outer district police. The man, identified as Kapil Gupta aka Ashish, a resident of Kanpur, was absconding in a rape case from the past two months was nabbed after a long chase of 2,200 kilometers from Karnataka.
The victim alleged that her brother-in-law raped her at her home in Delhi on December 13, 2021, after threatening to attack her husband and children with acid. The victim alleged that the man filmed the entire act and intimidated her to release it on social media.
The victim in her police complaint said that the man raped her again by blackmailing her. After the woman approached the police, a case was filed at the Sultan Puri police station and the accused fled away to evade his arrest.
WOMAN FILES COMPLAINT
Deputy Commissioner of police (outer) Sameer Sharma was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "After raping the woman, the man went absconding. The woman was scared of the man's threats and filed a complaint in March, three months after the act. A case was registered for rape and criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code's sections 376 and 506 on March 21."
In a bid to trace the accused, a special staff team was tasked to locate and nab him. A special police team under the supervision of DCP Sameer Sharma, Inspector Ajmer Singh, ASI Rakesh and other officers was formed to arrest the accused.
A police team raided his hideouts in Delhi and also searched for him in Kanpur but were not able to find him as his cell phone was switched off.
With the help of electronic surveillance, the man was finally traced in Bengaluru. Police said that a three-member team was sent to the city last week and the man was brought back to Delhi.
Police said that they are also trying to find out if the man was involved in other crimes before or after the acid attack.
