Land dispute delays Babusapalya underpass opening
A completed Road Under Bridge (RUB) in Babusapalya remains non-operational due to a 25-meter land dispute, leaving a crucial link road unused since May 2024. The underpass, located at the level crossing on Channasandra-Yelahanka railway line near Babusapalya Main Road, was intended to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents on the busy railway crossing. Despite its strategic importance in connecting Outer Ring Road and Horamavu Agara, the underpass remains blocked, posing serious safety and civic concerns.
Construction of the RUB began in September 2021 and was nearly completed by early 2024. However, a narrow stretch of land required to complete one side of the link road remains in legal contention, stalling the project indefinitely. Meanwhile, the opposite side of the road is fully constructed but inaccessible to the public.
Local residents expressed frustration over the delay, stating that the area under the bridge has turned into a hotspot for public drinking and illegal dumping. The site is littered with broken alcohol bottles and garbage, creating a health hazard and making it unsafe for women and children. Inadequate drainage work near residential gates has further worsened mosquito breeding and sanitation issues. Railway authorities confirmed that the matter is sub judice since May 2024. Without resolution and proper traffic planning, residents fear the road could become a major traffic bottleneck once opened. The BBMP has assured that stormwater drain work will be completed by the end of the year, but locals remain skeptical amid prolonged administrative inaction.
