In a landmark initiative to integrate sport into mainstream education, the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka, has joined hands with the British Council and the Premier League to empower students with essential life skills through football and physical activity.
The Premier League Primary Stars training programme, which concluded its Karnataka edition this week, has trained over 60 government school Physical Education teachers from across the state. The programme offers a structured 12-day face-to-face training module, focusing on high-quality coaching, educational tools, and interactive learning. Implemented in phases, the initial sessions equipped teachers with foundational knowledge in conducting effective PE classes. Subsequent phases emphasized building confidence and peer-training capabilities, ensuring wider outreach and sustainability.
This marks the latest expansion of the Premier League Primary Stars in India, which has already impacted states like Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Goa, and Odisha. Speaking at the valedictory event, Shri Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy, said, “This programme enables our PE teachers to foster leadership, teamwork, and gender equality. It aligns with our mission to promote quality, equity, and accessibility in education.” British Council South India Director, Janaka Pushpanathan, and Premier League Director of Community, Nick Perchard, reaffirmed their commitment to using sport as a transformative educational tool, underscoring its potential to create lasting social and educational impact across Karnataka.
