Judge holds court outside for injured woman

In a heartwarming gesture, Ramanagara Principal Civil Judge and JMFC H. Avinash Chindu stepped out of his courtroom to hold a hearing at the spot where a woman named Yashodamma was sitting outside the court building, unable to climb stairs due to a leg injury.

Yashodamma, daughter of accident victim Chaluvayya, had come to court to attend proceedings related to a compensation case. Chaluvayya had died in an accident, and the accused Sanjay Kalaro had appealed to the Supreme Court. The court had ordered Sanjay to pay ₹10 lakh compensation to Chaluvayya’s ten children — ₹1 lakh each.

In coordination with the Bengaluru South District Legal Services Authority, the compensation money was deposited in the Ramanagara court. During the hearing, advocate B.P. Ravi, representing Chaluvayya’s children, submitted vouchers, bank passbooks, and Aadhaar cards. After verifying the documents, Judge Avinash Chindu ordered that ₹1 lakh be released to each legal heir.

When he learnt that Yashodamma, one of the beneficiaries, was unable to climb the steps due to her injury, the judge went outside, conducted the required inquiry on the spot, and ensured that she too received her share of the compensation.

This humane act by the judge has won praise from people who witnessed the hearing conducted outside the courtroom, proving that justice can reach everyone when the system responds sensitively.
