Is your child addicted to mobile phones? NIMHANS offers free support

Published on

With children spending extended hours on mobile phones and television, parents are increasingly concerned about technology addiction among kids. To assist parents in tackling this issue, NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Science), based in city, is launching a free online session to educate them about children’s screen time, gaming, social media usage, and technology addiction.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the SHUT Clinic (Services for Healthy Use of Technology) and the NCWB (National Centre for Wellbeing). The session aims to guide parents with expert advice, practical strategies, and support to reduce excessive screen time, manage behavioral changes, and prevent technology-related issues in children.

The primary goal of this program is to empower parents with awareness about the subtle balance between beneficial technology use and addiction, helping to resolve conflicts and adopt healthy routines. Ultimately, the program seeks to improve the overall family environment and promote healthier daily habits.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss common mental health issues related to excessive technology use. Experts in psychology will provide guidance, and parents can share experiences and receive personalized advice. To support public awareness, these online sessions are scheduled on weekends.

These free sessions will take place every Saturday, with scheduled dates on May 31, June 21, June 25, June 28, and July 5, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Registered participants will receive the Zoom link via email. Interested parents can register by clicking on the NIMHANS parent group registration link provided.
