India’s First Quantum Summit Begins Today in Bengaluru
The stage is set for India’s first-ever quantum summit, "Quantum India Bengaluru – 2025," which begins on Thursday at a private hotel in the city. Organised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, the two-day summit aims to position the state as a national leader in quantum technology and innovation.
The event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will unveil the much-anticipated Karnataka Quantum Roadmap, which outlines the state’s long-term vision and policy direction in the emerging field.
Nobel Laureates Prof. Duncan Haldane (2016, Physics) and Prof. David Gross (2004, Physics) will headline the summit, which has already registered over 1,000 delegates from across India. Quantum experts from eight countries are also expected to participate, alongside leaders from industry, academia, and government.
Science and Technology Minister N.S. Boseraju, who has held a series of consultations with startups and tech companies in the run-up to the summit, emphasized the goal of building indigenous quantum capabilities. “We want to develop quantum technologies within India and use them to transform sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and public services,” he said.
Also attending are IT & BT Minister Priyank Kharge, Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Industries Minister M.B. Patil, and senior officials from KSTePS and DST.
The summit is expected to be a milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global player in quantum science and technology.
