IMD issues yellow alert for Bengaluru
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru as the city continues to experience persistent rainfall. The alert, which will remain in effect until July 27, warns of moderate to heavy showers over the coming days, urging residents to remain cautious.
As heavy rains lashed various parts of the city over the weekend, waterlogging and slow-moving traffic were reported in several areas. The weather department has predicted further rainfall activity due to active monsoon conditions and moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea.
The yellow alert serves as a precautionary notice, indicating the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours and to take safety precautions, especially during evening commutes.
According to officials, winds may gust up to 40–50 km/h in southern parts of the state, contributing to slightly cooler temperatures in Bengaluru. While the rainfall has brought some relief from the recent summer heat, it has also increased the risk of tree falls, power outages, and other weather-related hazards. BBMP officials have deployed additional teams to monitor rain-related incidents and respond to emergencies. Civic bodies are also clearing stormwater drains to prevent overflow and are on high alert for any rain-induced damage. The IMD continues to monitor the weather closely and will update advisories as needed. Bengaluru residents are urged to stay updated through official sources and avoid spreading unverified weather-related information on social media.
