Historic Kengeri Yellamma temple celebrates 49th Karaga Shakti Utsav

The 49th Karaga Shakti Utsav of the historic Kengeri Yellamma Temple was successfully held on April 19, Saturday night, with thousands of devotees participating in the grand event. As per tradition, Hemant Kumar carried the Karaga around the temple three times, and at 1:55 AM, the Karaga procession began its journey through the streets of Kengeri.
Devotees, chanting “Govinda, Govinda,” offered marigold flowers and prayers along the route. The procession visited several important temples, including Ramadevaru, Anjaneya Swami, the Muslim Dargah, Maramma, Kot Someshwara, Amba Bhavani, Kasturamma, and others, where special prayers were offered. The procession returned to the temple by 9:00 AM on Sunday. The path of the procession was decorated with electric lights and flowers. As part of the celebrations, various cultural programs were organized, including Yakshagana, Lalita Sahasranama recitation by over 250 women, Mangala Vadyam, Bharatanatyam, musical performances, Mahishasura Mardini Yakshagana, Bayalata, Dholak Kuni, and Veergase dance. Additionally, a silver and flower palanquin procession was held for 22 different deities.
An offering of food was provided in the temple’s premises. Kengeri’s MLA, S.T. Somasekhar, visited the temple, observed the arrangements for over two hours, and later walked through the streets, wishing peace, happiness, and prosperity for all. Former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLA S.T. Somasekhar, and other prominent leaders also visited the temple to offer special prayers. Several devotees, including R. Anjanappa, Muniraju, Shantaraju, J. Ramesh, Y. Krishna, and others, participated in the rituals.
