Heavy rainfall expected in Bengaluru, weather alert issued for the city
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms lashed Bengaluru on Sunday, April 20, as the city faced continuous pre-monsoon showers for the past week. While various areas experienced light to moderate rainfall throughout the day, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) issued a warning for heavy rainfall with thunder in the coming hours.
The rain continued well into the evening, with a sharp drop in temperature and a cool atmosphere. By 5 PM, several wards in the city, including Jakkur, Hoodi, Horamavu, Mahadevapura, Vidyaranyapura, Nelamangala, Herohalli, Kadugodi, Koramangala, Madiwala, and K.R. Market, recorded moderate to light rainfall. There were sporadic showers reported in other parts of Bengaluru as well, including Whitefield, Varthur, and Bannerghatta Road. Experts from the weather department predict that the rain, accompanied by thunder, would persist for the next few hours, and citizens are advised to stay alert. The rainfall is expected to continue until late at night, with the possibility of scattered showers in different areas of the city over the next three hours. Looking ahead, weather forecasts suggest that Bengaluru will experience clear skies over the next few days, with sunshine expected by the afternoon.
However, the city is likely to witness another round of heavy rainfall on April 25 and 26, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 33°C. Heavy rainfall has been reported in several parts of Karnataka, including Tumkur and Sakleshpur, as a result of a weather disturbance over the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists have confirmed that rain will persist across the state for the next five days.
