Grandson breaks into grandmother's house to steal gold to buy auto, arrested

Mithun (23), who stole gold ornaments from his grandmother's house to purchase an autorickshaw, has been arrested by Nandini Layout police.

Based on a complaint filed by Puthnanjamma, a resident of Vijayannand Layout, a case was registered on May 6. The police conducted an investigation and apprehended Mithun. They recovered a total of 81 grams of gold ornaments and Rs. 9.44 lakh in cash.

Mithun, who was working as a driver, had repeatedly asked his grandmother Puthnanjamma for an autorickshaw. She had refused. Frustrated, he duplicated the cupboard key. On May 1, while the family was visiting Amritoor's Hosapalya for a festival, Mithun broke into the house and stole Rs. 10 lakh in cash and 125 grams of gold ornaments, according to police sources.

The police have seized 81 grams of gold ornaments, Rs. 9.44 lakh in cash, and a two-wheeler from the accused.

Mithun’s actions highlight a desperate attempt to fund his auto rickshaw dreams that led to his arrest and thus, the recovery of the stolen valuables. Authorities have taken Mithun into custody, and further investigations are ongoing. The case underscores the importance of security and trust within families.
