Govt trying to divert attention from RCB stampede: Chakravarti Sulibele

Bengaluru: “There is not a single case of communal hatred registered against me. The government may be trying to divert public attention from the RCB stampede incident,” said thinker Chakravarti Sulibele, reacting to the recent police scrutiny of his activities.

In a statement to media regarding the police department’s queries into his legal background, Sulibele claimed the Congress government is behind this move. He alleged that the Siddaramaiah-led administration is fearful and might even resort to invoking the Goonda Act to prevent him from visiting districts and expressing dissent.

“The government is trying to suppress my voice, but I am not someone who gets intimidated by such tactics,” he declared. “The Congress fears I might become an obstacle for them in the future.” Sulibele added that there's no need for anyone to worry about the cases filed against him between 2022 and 2025 — “I’ll disclose the details myself,” he assured. He noted that the FIRs were registered only after Siddaramaiah took over as Chief Minister.

He claimed five cases have been filed against him under the current government — two in Shivamogga and two related to his tweets. “One case was registered simply because I spoke against Siddaramaiah,” he said. “Another pertains to a remark I made about Mallikarjun Kharge’s property where I used the word ‘unfit’ — they filed a caste-based insult case over that. The matter is now in the Supreme Court.”

Defending his public speeches, Sulibele said, “I speak about history. If I talk about Mohammad Ghazni or Ghauri, how does that translate to speaking against Muslims?” he questioned, calling into focus what he views as selective interpretation of historical commentary.
