Good News For Namma Metro Users, Work On KR Puram FOB Begins
In a major relief for KR Puram Metro commuters, the long standoff between South Western Railway (SWR) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) regarding land-acquisition has finally ended and work on the foot overbridge (FOB) between KR Puram Railway and Metro stations has been initiated. The construction work of the FOB will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will connect the Purple Line station with the other side of the road while the second phase will connect the Blue Line station with the other side of the road. The KR Puram Metro station is an interchange station where Purple Line (Byapapnahalli-Kengeri) and the upcoming Blue Line (Outer Ring Road-Airport Metro) will meet. The third phase will connect the revamped KR Puram railway station's platform to all the Metro stations. The FOB will link the metro concourse level to the parking lot right outside Platform 4 of the KR Puram railway station. The SWR has agreed to give Namma Metro 3,600 square metres in the parking lot near Platform No 4 of the KR Puram railway station. BMRCL will use about 200 square metres to build the FOB landing and the rest will be used to widen Old Madras Road from Tin Factory to KR Puram. In return, the BMRCL will give an equal amount of land to SWR. Yashvanth Chavan, chief public relations officer at BMRCL, said they are still in the planning stage of the construction work of the FOB and hence will not be able to divulge details like completion date of the project or its phases yet.
