Global capability centers planned near Bengaluru
In a major step toward advancing Karnataka’s tech infrastructure, the state government has announced plans to establish multiple Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in and around Bengaluru. Karnataka IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge revealed that Global Innovation Cities will be developed on 100 acres each in Adakanahalli and Kochanahalli, with a dedicated Printed Circuit Board (PCB) park also planned.
A new Kionics Plug-and-Play facility will also be built in Adakanahalli and Kochanahalli to attract high-tech industries and startups. These centers aim to enhance Karnataka’s global standing in electronics manufacturing, research, and innovation. Additionally, a drone testing center will be set up in Hesaraghatta, a northern suburb of Bengaluru. The IT/BT department is currently identifying suitable land for the project.
Industries Minister M.B. Patil stressed the importance of utilities such as power and water for industrial growth. He proposed drafting an “Industrial Water Security Act” and suggested developing parks for power generation using recycled industrial water and natural gas. A ₹2,500 crore plan has already been prepared to ensure water supply to KIADB industrial zones. Under this model, industries will receive 50% of their water needs from the government, while the remaining 50% must be self-managed and recycled. Senior officials including Principal Secretary Selvakumar, IT Secretary Ekroop Kaur, Industries Commissioner Gunjan Krishna, KIADB CEO Dr. Mahesh, and IT Director Rahul Sankanur attended the review meeting, where feasibility studies for upcoming industrial parks were also discussed.
