Girl electrocuted in Anekal

An 11-year-old girl tragically died after coming into contact with a live electric pole near Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Narayanaghatta, where the victim, identified as Tanishka S, was a fifth-grade student at a private school.

According to the police, Tanishka was playing outside her house when she accidentally touched a live electric pole and collapsed on the spot. Locals immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead.

Preliminary reports suggest the electric pole may have been live due to a fault in the earthing system. Officials also noted that the area had experienced rainfall at the time, which might have contributed to the electrical hazard. “We suspect a technical issue with the grounding system, but confirmation is pending. Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have been called in to inspect the site and identify the cause of the electrocution,” a senior police officer said.

Following a complaint lodged by Tanishka’s family, the Surya City police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for death by negligence. The case names officials from both the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and the Public Works Department (PWD) as the accused.

“The FSL team’s report will determine the lapses, and further action will be taken based on its findings,” the officer added. Meanwhile, locals have demanded accountability from civic authorities to prevent such tragedies in the future.
