Ginger Purchasing Center to Be Established in Sulibele
Hosakote
The government has approved the establishment of a raw ginger procurement center in Sulibele village, Hosakote taluk, which is the leading ginger-producing area in Bangalore Rural district. The ginger registration process is set to begin soon, offering much-needed relief to local farmers.
The procurement center will be located at the regulated center (bank) of the Sericulture Growers and Farmers Service Cooperative Society in Sulibele hobli. This move follows a report by Prajavani in April, which highlighted the severe losses faced by farmers due to the decline in ginger cultivation and the urgent necessity for such a facility.
Farmers in the region traditionally grow two horticulture crops annually, but ginger requires at least a year to mature. When ginger prices drop, farmers suffer financial hardships since they cannot grow multiple crops in a year. The procurement center is expected to provide vital support by ensuring fair prices and reducing losses.
The central government has fixed the procurement price of FAQ quality raw ginger at ₹2,445 per quintal. Farmers registered under the RTC can sell their ginger under this scheme, with a purchase limit of up to 30 quintals per acre and 60 quintals per farmer for FAQ quality ginger. Payments will be directly credited to the bank accounts linked with the farmer’s Aadhaar number.
Farmers can register through the FRUIT software by submitting land records, Aadhaar card, bank account details linked to Aadhaar, a photograph, and their farmer registration number (FID) from the software. The FID can be obtained from the farmer contact center at the hobli level or the taluk agriculture department.
