Gandhinagar cleanliness drive gains momentum
A major public awareness initiative, Jana Jagruti Abhiyana, was conducted in the busy Majestic–Gandhinagar area of Bengaluru with the active participation of traders, footpath vendors, travel operators, hotel owners, and auto drivers. The campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness and improving basic civic amenities in the locality, which sees thousands of travellers pass through daily.
The drive was jointly organized by officials from the BBMP, BWSSB, Bengaluru City Police, and various civic departments. The stakeholders met to discuss issues related to waste management, sanitation, water supply, traffic congestion, and public hygiene in and around the Gandhinagar and Majestic hubs.
Officials emphasized that maintaining cleanliness and ensuring accessible public facilities are essential, not just for local businesses, but for the overall image of the city, especially since the area is a critical transit point for visitors arriving by train and bus. Participants were urged to cooperate with civic bodies by avoiding littering, managing waste responsibly, and helping enforce traffic discipline. The meeting also focused on creating awareness among vendors and shopkeepers about their role in preserving the city’s cleanliness.
Speaking at the event, civic leaders stressed that Gandhinagar should reflect the spirit of a welcoming and organized Bengaluru. The #NammaGandhinagara campaign has now taken shape as a collaborative effort between citizens and authorities to keep the area clean, safe, and traveller-friendly. Follow-up meetings and enforcement drives are expected in the coming weeks to ensure continued progress.
