Five girls end lives over PUC results
Bengaluru
After repeated appeals from the Karnataka government asking students not to panic or lose hope over the 2nd PUC (Class 12) Board Exam-1 results, five girl students have reportedly died by suicide across the state in the past 24 hours.
These tragic incidents were reported from Mysuru, Ballari, Davanagere, Haveri districts, and Bengaluru. In Mysuru, Ishwarya, a student from the Government PU College in Vontikoppal, ended her life after the results were out. From Ballari, Vijayalaxmi Siriguppada from Agasanuru in Siraguppa taluk also took the extreme step, reportedly upset with her results.
In Davanagere, Krupa, a science student, died by suicide after failing the exam in her first attempt. Kavya Basappa Lamani from Haveri district also ended her life following the announcement of her results. Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, a student from Sapthagiri Layout died just hours before the results were announced. Police say she feared failure.
Despite these incidents, officials are urging students not to lose hope. Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said, “This is the result of the first examination. Two more rounds of exams will be held... We are not declaring any student as failed.”
He further explained that results for failed students would be considered only after the third attempt.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also appealed, “Do not give in to disappointment or anxiety... There will certainly be another chance to face the exam and pass with better marks.”
Authorities are continuing investigations. The state reported a 73.45% pass rate, with 4.68 lakh students clearing the first round of exams.
