Fire at Burns Ward of Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, No Casualties Reported

A minor fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at the Burns Ward of Victoria Hospital. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM in the Seminar Room of the MBCC Block, reportedly caused by a short circuit in a switchboard located behind a refrigerator.

There were 26 patients in the ward at the time, including 14 men, 5 women, and 7 children, with five of them in the ICU. On detecting the smoke, hospital staff quickly acted to relocate all patients to H Block of the hospital as a precautionary measure. No injuries or casualties were reported.

Dr. Divya, who was on night duty, said she noticed a strange sound coming from the switchboard and alerted hospital authorities immediately. Interns nearby also noticed the fire, and the matter was escalated to senior doctors without delay. The fire department was informed and promptly extinguished the fire.

According to an official statement from Dr. Ramesh Krishna. K, Dean & Director of BMCRI, the situation is fully under control. He, along with Dr. Deepak (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Yogeshwarappa (HOD), and Dr. Smitha (Professor of Plastic Surgery), were present at the site to supervise and ensure patient safety.

All patients, attenders, medical and paramedical staff are reported safe. The hospital has assured that operations continue as normal, and all safety protocols were followed effectively.
