An FIR has been filed at the KR Puram police station following the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy, Ananth, who was fatally electrocuted after coming into contact with a high-tension wire. The complaint, filed by his mother Tulavoor, has led to charges of negligence against multiple authorities and individuals under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (causing death by negligence).

According to the FIR, the accused include the building owner Balaraj, engineers from Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), as well as assistant engineers from the BBMP. The complaint states that the house owner had illegally constructed a three-storey building without proper safety measures, and authorities failed to install protective covering on the high-tension lines that ran dangerously close to the property.

The tragedy occurred on May 15, when Ananth, who was playing in the compound of the house, attempted to throw away a broom. In the process, the broom came into contact with the high-tension wire, electrocuting the boy. Despite being rushed to the KR Puram government hospital by his uncle, the boy could not be saved.

Tulavoor, a housekeeping worker who had moved to Bengaluru with her children two years ago, accused authorities of gross negligence. She also alleged that a post-mortem was delayed due to lack of police clearance at Victoria Hospital, further compounding the family’s anguish.

Police have since visited the hospital and initiated further proceedings. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by illegal constructions and exposed power lines in densely populated urban areas.

Public safety experts and civic groups have called for stricter enforcement of building and electrical safety regulations in the city to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
