Ecofix machine arrives in Bengaluru to fix potholes in minutes

Bengaluru residents, long frustrated by pothole-ridden roads, might finally see a solution. The BBMP has introduced a new, domestically developed machine called Ecofix to tackle the problem. This game-changing technology promises quick and lasting pothole repairs, making travel smoother and safer.

The Ecofix machine uses a mixture of iron, steel, tar, cement, and gravel to create a mortar-like material that fills and levels potholes efficiently. Unlike traditional methods, the patches done by this machine show no signs of sinking or damage over time. What sets Ecofix apart is its built-in hot air drying system, allowing roads to be used just minutes after repair. It can even operate during wet conditions, making it a reliable solution year-round. Developed jointly by CSIR and CRRI, the technology was tested in a pilot project on State Highway 256 in December 2024, with positive results. In addition, experts have proposed using a mobile app to help identify potholes, further speeding up the repair process.

With these innovations, BBMP hopes to finally resolve Bengaluru’s persistent pothole woes. The Ecofix machine, with its innovative design, ensures that potholes are filled quickly and efficiently. The machine’s ability to create a mortar-like mixture using materials such as iron, steel, tar, and gravel helps provide a durable solution. Its quick-drying feature allows for immediate use of the roads, greatly improving traffic flow and reducing disruptions for commuters.
