Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara categorically clarified that the government has no plans to rename Tumakuru district under any circumstances.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Parameshwara addressed the ongoing speculation that Tumakuru might be renamed as "North Bengaluru." “Our art and culture are unique, and we will never compromise on that. Tumakuru will not be renamed as North Bengaluru. The district is developing rapidly, yes, but efforts are focused on expanding metro connectivity and encouraging more industries — not on changing the district's name,” he asserted.

Responding to earlier remarks where he had said “Tumakuru could become like South Bengaluru,” Dr. Parameshwara explained, “I had merely stated that Tumakuru might evolve into a southern counterpart of Bengaluru in terms of development. Nowhere did I say that the name of the district would be changed.”

He stressed that Tumakuru has a distinct identity with rich historical and cultural heritage. “The name Tumakuru carries with it decades of legacy and pride. No matter the extent of development, the name will not be changed,” he reiterated.

Highlighting the region's cultural contribution, Dr. Parameshwara added, “We have illustrious personalities like Baraguru Ramachandrappa, Dodda Rangegowda, and Narahari Shastri from Tumakuru. The district’s name is tied to this legacy, and we will preserve it.”

His remarks come in the wake of concerns and criticisms from residents and cultural groups after reports surfaced suggesting that Tumakuru might be rebranded to align with Bengaluru’s expanding urban influence.
