Domestic LPG cylinders seized during raids on commercial establishments
Shidlaghatta,
In a surprise crackdown, officials from the Taluk Office's Department of Food and Civil Supplies seized several domestic-use LPG cylinders that were being illegally used for commercial purposes in various parts of Shidlaghatta town on Thursday.
A team led by Food Inspectors Prakash and Venkatalakshmamma conducted raids at hotels, tea shops, and coffee stalls across the city, following credible information that domestic LPG cylinders were being misused for business activities. During the operation, the team seized a total of 13 domestic LPG cylinders.
Of these, officials confirmed that one cylinder had not yet been used, while the remaining 12 were found to be in partial use. The unauthorized usage of subsidized domestic LPG in commercial setups is a violation of safety norms and government regulations.
Authorities stated that the seized cylinders will be submitted to the District Magistrate’s court along with an investigation report. Notices will be issued to the individuals and establishments involved, seeking clarification and relevant documents.
“If the concerned parties are able to produce valid documentation authorizing commercial use, the cylinders may be returned. Otherwise, legal proceedings will be initiated, and the cylinders will be confiscated permanently,” said officials.
The raid comes amid rising concerns over the misuse of domestic LPG in business settings, which poses not only a legal issue but also a significant safety risk. Further inspections are expected in the coming days to curb the illegal use of domestic cylinders in the region.
