DG & IGP MA Saleem issues instructions for traffic police
Bengaluru
DG & IGP MA Saleem has issued instructions for the traffic police. As per the direction dated 13.05.2025, all unit heads must conduct similar enforcement drives regularly, especially in urban areas, and submit visual evidence to the office of the DGP.
The enforcement must target violations occurring at major intersections, accident-prone zones, and public areas, ensuring that evidence is gathered and violators are fined on the spot.
This instruction follows the directions of the DGP & IGP and must be executed immediately across all police units in the state.
Furthermore, all field officers, supervisory officers, unit heads, and station officers are instructed to carry out the following actions as part of the operation.
Police must stop vehicles with visible violations and issue on-the-spot fines. These vehicles should be checked as per departmental guidelines and action must be taken.
In the case of visible violations, enforcement teams must immediately stop such vehicles, document the violation, and issue penalties. These incidents must be recorded as described below.
Mandya district police inspected and fined vehicles for traffic violations under special enforcement operations during leave periods. The operation was documented with photos/videos and reported accordingly.
Types of Visible Violations:
Zigzag driving, jumping over barricades, and rash driving must be stopped and penalized.
Drivers riding without proper documentation must be stopped and fined.
Pillion riders without helmets and vehicles left on the road with keys in ignition must be addressed immediately and fined.
In urban areas, vehicles with violations coming from other districts must be inspected and penalized. If the vehicle belongs to another district, the local police department must inform that jurisdiction, and follow-up enforcement must be carried out.
In case of physical enforcement, officers must wear reflective jackets and use LED batons while stopping vehicles. Additionally, they must use body-worn cameras during such operations for documentation.
Units equipped with Traffic Management Centres (TMC) or Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) must carry out contactless enforcement operations as well and ensure proper documentation and fine collection.
Even if spot fines are not imposed, all violations must be recorded. The vehicle numbers must be uploaded to the centralized database, and the traffic violations should be tagged accordingly for future action.
If violations are detected on national highways, state highways, or major roads, the vehicle details must be sent to the RTO for suspension of the driver's license. This must also be communicated to the Enforcement Division of the Transport Department.
All units must compile daily data on violations, attach 100–150 photos, and send a district-level report and risk-wise location map to the higher authorities for review.
In sensitive or accident-prone zones, departments must coordinate with BBMP officials or municipal officials to place barricades and implement additional traffic enforcement measures.
Senior officers and inspectors must supervise the work being carried out.
