Darshan appears, key accused skip hearing
Actor Darshan and several co-accused in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case appeared before a Bengaluru court on Thursday, while three prime accused — Pavithra Gowda, Dhanraj, and Vinay — were notably absent, drawing the court’s ire.
The absence of the main accused prompted the presiding judge to express strong displeasure, stating that repeated non-appearance without valid exemption could lead to issuance of warrants. The court directed that either exemption applications must be submitted in advance or personal appearance must be ensured without fail in future proceedings.
Vinay’s legal representative submitted a formal request seeking additional time for his client to appear before the court. Accepting the plea, the judge adjourned the next hearing to August 12. The case has drawn widespread media and public attention due to Darshan’s celebrity status and the serious nature of the allegations. Renukaswamy, the victim, was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and murdered in June, with Darshan and his associates accused of being involved in the crime. The investigation has revealed disturbing details, including planned violence and an attempt to destroy evidence.
While several of the accused, including Darshan, have already undergone police interrogation and judicial custody, the court proceedings remain critical in determining the course of the trial. Legal experts suggest that any further non-compliance from the absentees could lead to stricter legal action. The court has reiterated that all accused must cooperate fully with judicial procedures to ensure a fair and timely trial.
