Cyclone impact: IMD forecasts heavy rainfall across Karnataka till May 6
In welcome news amid soaring temperatures across Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in almost all districts of the state over the coming days. The rainfall is attributed to the influence of a cyclonic circulation currently affecting the region. According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy showers are expected at isolated places, particularly in Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Tumakuru, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Ballari, Chitradurga, and Mandya districts.
The forecast remains active until May 6, offering some much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions. CS Patil, a senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Centre in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, said that in addition to heavy rainfall, certain areas might also experience hailstorms.
He advised citizens to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially those in agricultural and outdoor professions. The sudden change in weather is expected to lower daytime temperatures, providing temporary relief but also posing challenges such as waterlogging and transportation delays in some regions. Farmers have been advised to safeguard crops vulnerable to hail and heavy rain. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue timely updates. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable districts to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
