Cybersecurity unlocked: Protecting data in the age of digital warfare
The Department of Computer Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) inaugurated its flagship club, Labyrinth 2025–2026, on 28th July 2025 with the theme “Cybersecurity Unlocked: Protecting Data in the Age of Digital Warfare.” Held at the Main Auditorium, the event underscored the importance of data security, digital trust, and ethical computing in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape.
The programme began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by an address from Dr. Fr. Jossy George, Director of the Department of Computer Science and Statistics and Data Science. He urged students to make the most of the club as a space for learning and collaboration. Dr. Deepthi Das, Associate Dean, traced the club’s roots to 2014, when it was founded through student initiative. Dr. Rupali Wagh, Head of the Department, highlighted Labyrinth’s role in holistic student development.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Pronab Mohanty, IPS and DGP of Cyber Crime and Narcotics, Karnataka, spoke on the rise of cyber threats and the urgent need for skilled professionals. He discussed how AI, LLMs, and Agentic AI are revolutionising cyber warfare through phishing, ransomware, and intelligent malware.
A panel discussion moderated by alumnus Mr. Sourajeet Majumder followed, featuring Mr. Manoj Kashyap R (EthicalByte) and Mr. Ashok Bhat (IBM). The panel addressed current cybersecurity challenges and engaged actively with students.
The event concluded with a strong message: Labyrinth continues to be a launchpad for innovation, leadership, and ethical tech practice.
