In response to the increasing COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, the District Health Department has ramped up its preparedness measures around Kempegowda International Airport and the surrounding areas of Bangalore Rural district. A significant step in this effort is the reopening and reactivation of the RT-PCR testing laboratory situated at the government residence in Devanahalli town, Bangalore Rural district.

The laboratory, which was operational during the second wave of the pandemic, has now been refurbished and inspected by health officials to resume testing activities. The RT-PCR lab’s reinstatement is part of a broader strategy to enhance testing capacity in the region. In addition to Devanahalli, testing facilities have been re-established in four taluks of Bangalore Rural district, including the airport itself. Bangalore Rural District Officer Krishnareddy personally reviewed the readiness and functionality of these labs to ensure they are fully equipped and prepared for increased testing demands.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise, local authorities are taking proactive steps to prevent a potential surge. The district administration, along with airport officials, has issued alerts urging residents and travelers to adhere to safety protocols, including wearing masks in public places. Currently, there are two active COVID-19 cases in the district, one of whom is a pilot, highlighting the ongoing risk of transmission.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed health officials to intensify sample collection efforts and monitor the situation closely. The reopening of the RT-PCR lab at Kempegowda International Airport underscores the district’s renewed focus on timely testing and containment measures. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and remain vigilant to prevent any escalation of COVID-19 cases in the region.
