A police officer’s son allegedly assaulted a passerby returning home after evening prayers in HBR Layout. The incident occurred when the accused, who was reportedly intoxicated, was causing a disturbance on the road and scribbling obscene words on a parked car. When the victim questioned his behavior, the accused, along with three to four friends, attacked him with beer bottles and an iron rod. The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. According to witnesses, the accused was known for consuming ganja in public and creating disturbances in the neighborhood. The victim’s wife stated, “When my husband asked him about the writing on the car, he and his friends started beating him brutally until he fell unconscious. We had previously complained about drug abuse and alcohol consumption in the area, but no action was taken.” The accused, identified as the younger son of a police sub-inspector, allegedly used his father’s influence to escape consequences. However, following the assault, he now faces charges of attempted murder. The victim’s wife further questioned, “If a policeman’s son behaves like this, what example it sets for society?” Residents are urging authorities to take strict action and ensure law enforcement officers do not misuse their power to shield their children from justice.
