Cab driver arrested for impersonating police officer and assaulting motorist
A cab driver was arrested by Pulakeshinagar police for impersonating a police officer and assaulting a motorist using a fake siren. The accused, identified as Nithul Raj, allegedly attacked a man named Santosh Kumar following a minor road accident. According to police, the incident occurred last week when Santosh’s car accidentally brushed against Nithul’s vehicle. Instead of stopping,
Santosh continued driving. Enraged, Nithul activated a siren fitted to his car, chased Santosh, and forced him to stop. He then pretended to be a police officer, used abusive language, and fled the scene after threatening the victim. Santosh immediately contacted the police helpline and lodged a complaint. Based on his statement, the police reviewed CCTV footage, traced the vehicle, and arrested the accused.
It was later found that Nithul was not affiliated with any law enforcement agency. Further investigation revealed that the siren had been installed on the vehicle as part of a car rally organised by a Volkswagen car association, which often participates in parades on national holidays such as Republic Day. DCP (East Division) Devaraj confirmed that although the siren was used for rally purposes, its misuse to impersonate police personnel is a serious offence. Legal action is being pursued against the accused under relevant IPC sections. The police have expressed deep concern over the incident and urged the public to be more aware of the signs of distress in young individuals. They also emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
