BWSSB website hacked by online fraudsters
Bangalore The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) experienced an attempted cyber-attack on its online application portal. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that no sensitive customer information was leaked during this incident, according to BWSSB Chairman Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar.
In a press release, he stated that on April 11, an attempt was made to hack data from the online water connection application website. Following this, BWSSB's engineers successfully thwarted the attack after receiving information from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). To conduct a detailed investigation, a complaint has been filed with the cyber police.
Customer data maintained by BWSSB is stored in the State Data Center managed by the Karnataka government. The attempt to breach the water connection portal has been effectively blocked by the engineers. It has been confirmed that only a small portion of customer data was accessed, and no sensitive information was leaked at this initial stage.
The organization has taken measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents on its portal. Data stored on the website have been transferred to more secure, centralized servers. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions about adopting advanced security technologies like blockchain to make the platform more transparent, secure, and tamper-resistant.
BWSSB emphasizes that blockchain technology is being considered as a long-term strategic measure to strengthen digital security further. The Chairman also assured that a strict legal action will be initiated against those involved in data sale or misuse. BWSSB remains committed to safeguarding customer information and is actively working towards building a robust digital infrastructure to enhance public service delivery.
