BWSSB to launch online booking system for Cauvery water tankers

Published on

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is set to launch an online platform for booking Cauvery water tankers by the end of March. This initiative aims to regulate water supply, curb private tanker overcharging, and ensure fair access to water for residents in areas without piped connections. With Bengaluru facing severe water scarcity, especially in eastern parts of the city, many residents rely on private tankers, often paying exorbitant prices. To address this issue, BWSSB will introduce a no-profit-no-loss model, supplying water at regulated rates. Around 200 GPS-enabled tankers, with capacities ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 litres, will be deployed for this service. These tankers will be trackable in real time, similar to ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber. Officials believe this system will bring much-needed transparency, affordability, and reliability to the water supply, preventing exploitation in tanker-dependent areas. Through GPS tracking, residents will be able to monitor the status of their bookings and receive timely deliveries. Additionally, the online platform will streamline tanker dispatching, reducing delays and ensuring water is distributed efficiently. BWSSB aims to maintain strict quality control, ensuring only potable Cauvery water is supplied. The board encourages residents to utilize this service, which is expected to provide relief to thousands facing water shortages. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Bengaluru’s water supply and management.
