BMTC to introduce feeder buses for 20 metro stations in Bengaluru

To enhance metro connectivity, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) plan to introduce metro feeder bus services to 15-20 metro stations in the city. These services, expected to begin in the next two weeks, will use midi buses to improve accessibility. The initiative aims to provide cost-effective transportation for metro passengers, reducing dependence on expensive autos and cabs. While BMTC already operates feeder services on some metro routes, the new buses will cover additional areas, improving first- and last-mile connectivity. Currently, Bengaluru’s metro network includes 68 stations across the Purple and Green lines, with BMTC running 208 feeder buses to 46 stations. However, many commuters still struggle to reach workplaces and residential areas, leading to increased reliance on private vehicles. To address this, BMTC has identified key metro stations across North, South, East, and West Bengaluru for enhanced feeder services. A detailed study considering peak hours, passenger volume, and traffic density has been conducted to determine the new bus routes. BMTC officials revealed that 600 new midi buses, including 90 electric buses, will soon be introduced, strengthening the feeder network. This initiative follows metro fare revisions, which have affected ridership. Authorities hope the new bus services will attract more passengers, improving urban mobility in Bengaluru. In addition to improving metro accessibility, BMTC is also working on a digital ticketing system to simplify fare payments and reduce cash transactions.
