BMTC deploys mobile repair vehicles to ease traffic
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced five mobile repair vehicles to enhance its on-road bus maintenance services, aiming to minimize delays caused by breakdowns and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
BMTC currently operates 6,835 buses, completing an average of 5,875 trips daily across Bengaluru and its suburbs. With breakdowns contributing to the city's increasing traffic woes, the transport authority has decided to station mobile repair vehicles at major transport hubs and bus terminals. At present, two mobile repair units are already operational at Marathahalli and Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS). The new vehicles will be deployed in key areas, including Shivajinagar, Yeshwantpur, Jayanagar/Banashankari, Silk Board, Nayandahalli Junction, and surrounding locations. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth and uninterrupted public transport. These mobile repair vehicles will help swiftly address breakdowns, ensuring minimal inconvenience to passengers while also easing traffic congestion, he stated. The newly introduced repair vehicles, manufactured by Ashok Leyland, comply with BS-VI emission norms under the Dost Strong-LS model, making them an eco-friendly addition to BMTC’s fleet.
