BMRCL seeks 45 acres for Namma metro near Hebbal
Bengaluru’s Hebbal Flyover, a traffic hotspot, is set for relief as the Namma Metro project advances. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has proposed the transfer of 45 acres near Hebbal, currently under Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), to facilitate metro construction. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Industries Minister M.B. Patil held discussions on this matter, emphasizing its significance for easing traffic congestion. The land, initially acquired by KIADB for a different project, is now sought by BMRCL to connect Hebbal to Kempegowda International Airport via metro, reducing traffic and improving connectivity. To establish a multi-modal transport hub, BMRCL has been urging the state government to hand over the land. Shivakumar has taken special interest in the proposal, considering its impact on Bengaluru’s development. Discussions with Patil also covered legal aspects and possible solutions to facilitate the land transfer. The airport metro corridor, one of Bengaluru’s longest, is progressing swiftly. Unlike other routes, land acquisition issues have been minimal, expediting construction. With traffic in Hebbal worsening daily, metro connectivity is seen as a crucial solution. The government and BMRCL are pushing for the project’s rapid completion to enhance the city’s transport infrastructure. Officials are also considering integrating bus bays and pedestrian-friendly pathways into the metro hub to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity. Urban planners suggest that effective coordination between BMRCL, KIADB, and BMTC will be key to transforming Hebbal into a major transit point.
