The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRC) is set to allocate ₹551 crore for acquiring 45 acres of land near Hebbal to advance the city’s metro project. Addressing a meeting on Monday, Bengaluru Urban Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar discussed acquiring military and other lands for the metro station. BJP MP P.C. Mohan emphasized the importance of securing this land for the project and urged the Karnataka government to prioritize public transport over private interests. The metro project in Bengaluru has faced delays due to various challenges, including land acquisition and train procurement. The Yellow Line is ready, but work on it has been halted due to delays in procuring trains. Meanwhile, the Pink Line is not expected to open until 2026. Further, the Blue Line extension to the airport has been postponed to 2027. In his statement, Mohan stressed the significance of the 45 acres in Hebbal, which is a crucial transport hub for the city. BMRCL plans to build three metro lines and a suburban railway station on this land, which is vital for Bengaluru’s growing transport network. The Central government has already approved the project, and BMRC is committed to making the necessary payments for the land. D.K. Shivakumar, along with Industry Minister M.B. Patil, also discussed expanding the metro, tunneling, and road transport services to improve public transport in Bengaluru and make it more convenient for commuters.
