BMRCL Takes Action After Viral Video of Passenger Using Pan Masala on Metro
Bengaluru: Following the circulation of a video showing a passenger consuming pan masala on the ‘Namma Metro’ train, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to impose fines on passengers who indulge in the consumption of tobacco-based products within metro stations and trains.
In recent times, there have been increasing public complaints about spitting and littering associated with tobacco products such as gutkha and pan masala. To address this issue, BMRCL has announced strengthened measures to prevent spitting and littering in the metro area. Increased patrolling during non-peak hours will be implemented, and surveillance in metro trains and stations will be enhanced. Passengers who violate the rules will be fined according to the BMRCL regulations.
Due to the difficulty in detecting such substances with metal detectors, regular inspections will be conducted at suspicious areas in all metro stations. Additionally, platform security staff will be trained to monitor passengers discreetly for tobacco usage and to engage sensitively with the public regarding this issue.
In the event of any violations, instructions have been issued to notify the central security control room to alert the relevant platform security staff. Furthermore, BMRCL officials have announced plans to campaign to raise awareness among passengers about refraining from using tobacco-based products.
