BMRCL launches breastfeeding centers at metro stations

Published on

Responding to a viral video of a mother struggling to breastfeed at Trinity station, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has launched breastfeeding centers across key metro stations.

In the first phase, infant breastfeeding centers have been opened at five stations—Baiyappanahalli, Majestic, Yeshwantpur, Kengeri, and Yelachenahalli. These centers, built in collaboration with the BMRCL Child Health Foundation and CIBDI Swavalamban Foundation, feature eight-by-eight-foot rooms where up to four mothers can comfortably breastfeed at once.

Mothers can also rest on benches if needed, while other metro stations without breastfeeding centers have a customer helpline for assistance. BMRCL plans to expand these facilities to all metro stations in the city soon.
