BJP rebukes Rahul Gandhi’s ECI allegations
The Karnataka BJP has strongly dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent accusations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), calling his remarks a “baseless conspiracy theory” stemming from an inability to accept electoral defeat.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Congress had “100% concrete proof” of cheating in at least one Karnataka constituency during the recent Lok Sabha elections. In response, Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka, R. Ashoka, criticized Gandhi for undermining democratic institutions and said the BJP’s decisive victory reflected public trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi—not electoral malpractice. “Instead of introspection, Rahul Gandhi is blaming the ECI to deflect from Congress’s collapse. CM Siddaramaiah is supporting this narrative not to protect democracy, but to shield himself from internal backlash,” Ashoka said.
He emphasized that voter list updates are conducted transparently, in the presence of all party representatives. “If Rahul truly had evidence, why hasn’t he taken legal action yet?” Ashoka challenged. Backing Gandhi, CM Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP had “misused” the ECI to influence the election outcome. He said the results raised serious doubts and indicated deliberate irregularities.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka denied the allegations, stating that electoral rolls were transparently shared with all recognized political parties during the Special Summary Revision before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has condemned the Congress’s accusations as politically motivated attempts to erode public faith in India’s democratic processes.
